“I’m fascinated by telling the character’s story through clothes. How is the character’s look influenced by their era, society, location, and personal taste.” -Christine Reimer

Christine Reimer specializes in theatrical costume designs for theatre and opera. During her 25 year career she has designed costumes across Canada and into the United States for large scale and boutique operas, original new theatrical projects, Shakespearean productions, musicals, independent film and corporate events. Growing up in the States, Costa Rica, West and East Germany helped Ms Reimer develop her interest in designing diverse characters stories through clothes. After studying Art History in Ontario she moved to Montreal where she studied and worked in fabric dyeing and printing studios. Early in her career her master fabric dyeing skills led her to work at The Oregon Shakespeare Festival and The Stratford Festival for many seasons. After receiving an MFA in theatre design from the University of British Columbia, Ms Reimer has been based out of Vancouver, Canada - situated on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Christine’s costume illustrations have appeared in numerous publications and exhibitions including Bravo! The History of Opera in British Columbia (Harbour Press), The Art and Practice of Costume Design (Routledge) and Opera Canada.
